Chelsea have reportedly submitted two bids to Inter Milan for the potential transfer of Romelu Lukaku back to South West London.

This is according to The Athletic, who say the Blues have not given up on their pursuit of Lukaku.

It appeared the chase of Inter’s no.9 had dispersed as the Stamford Bridge hierarchy turned their attentions toward Erling Haaland.

Evidently, they haven’t thrown all their eggs into the Norwegian’s basket.

With less than two weeks until the Premier League season begins, Chelsea must ramp up their efforts to sign a new centre-forward.

Rome-lot of goals

If Haaland isn’t going to be the big money signing, then Lukaku is seemingly the second-best choice.

And there can’t be many better alternatives in the modern game right now to Borussia Dortmund’s destructive striker.

Since the Belgian signed for Inter in 2019, he has scored 64 times in just 95 matches.

In that period, he blasted the Italians to their first Serie A title since 2011.

Lukaku was also named the league’s MVP last year, after bagging 24 goals and providing 10 assists.

He is absolutely adored by everyone associated with the Nerazzurri.

None more so than former teammate Ashley Young, who described the 28-year-old as ‘fantastic’ following a Europa League game last August.

Inter do not want to let Lukaku leave, but they might not have much choice in the matter.

The club remains in quite a lot of financial trouble.

Selling their prized asset would certainly loosen the burden somewhat.

Corriere Della Sera recently claimed that Chelsea were planning to offer €130m (£110m) for Lukaku’s services.

Whether this is one of the proposals stated by The Athletic is yet to be seen.

But be sure the Blues will be working on this or a deal for Haaland right up until the very last minute.
