Reports suggest that Chelsea have held a meeting regarding potentially making a move for Barcelona’s Gavi.
According to 90min, the Blues are one of many elite clubs in Europe that are interested in signing the 18-year-old this summer.
The midfielder has quickly emerged as one of the most promising youngsters in world football, following in the large footsteps of fellow young star Pedri at Barcelona.
His manager Xavi is equally as impressed in his game, describing him as the future of Barcelona, and labelling him as “spectacular”.
It’s not just his own manager who has sung his praises, with Barcelona legend and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola claiming he is “fantastic”.
Chelsea hold meeting over Gavi
While his future is obviously bright at the Nou Camp, the Catalan club have yet to tie his future down to a long-term contract.
This has put top European clubs on note, with the potential to strengthen their midfield for the next 15 years a genuine possibility.
90min have claimed Chelsea are one of these teams, with it already being seen that the new owners are keen to invest in order to back Thomas Tuchel.
The German has been handed an expensive set of signings in Todd Boehly’s first window at the helm, highlighted by the big name acquisitions of Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly.
However, they have clearly listened to the manager’s concerns later in the window, with them making deadline day additions in striker and midfield areas, positions the Blues were clearly struggling in during the opening weeks of the season.
Gavi would no doubt be a sensational coup for Boehly, with him joining no doubt being a statement that the pedigree of the club is as high as ever despite there being no more Roman Abramovich.
