Chelsea are unlikely to make a significantly better offer for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk than Arsenal, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling have joined Chelsea’s already extensive injury list, which includes key players such as N’Golo Kante, Reece James, and Mason Mount.

Having already announced two January signings in young striker David Datro Fofana and centre-back Benoit Badiashile, the Blues are now under some pressure to solve their lack of attacking options in the transfer market.

Among the attackers linked with Chelsea is Shakhtar’s Mudryk.

CBS Sports journalist Jacobs claims that Chelsea have already had several meetings with Shakhtar over a potential deal for the 22-year-old.

Chelsea, however, are reportedly not the only club in the race. Their London rivals, Arsenal, are said to be interested in the Ukraine international too and considered to be in a pole position to sign the player.

Jacobs adds that Arsenal are rather “calm” about a potential Chelsea hijack.

“Chelsea are not expected to meet Shakhtar’s public valuation,” the journalist wrote on Twitter.

“They also want to understand if Mudryk is open to joining them over Arsenal.

“At this stage, and with Arsenal still in active talks, Mudryk has indicated he wants a move to the Emirates Stadium.

“This means Chelsea have to hope Arsenal pull out or try to change Mudryk’s mind.

“In addition should Chelsea bid, it is not thought their initial offer will significantly differ from Arsenal’s own valuation.”

Shakthar are reportedly adamant on their €100million (£88m) asking price for Mudryk and will likely keep their stance with plenty of time left in the transfer window.

Mudryk’s signing a new four-year deal, which ties him to the club until December 2026, last year also put the Ukrainian club in a comfortable negotiating position.

The winger already has seven goals from 12 appearances in the Ukrainian Premier League this season.
