Chelsea are reportedly set to sign Brighton prospect Zak Sturge and beat the likes of Tottenham to his signature.
According to 90min, the Blues are in pole position to finalise a deal for Brighton’s 18-year-old defender.
It is understood the likes of Spurs, Leeds United and Brentford have all shown an interest in the English teenager.
The report explains it’s Chelsea who are expected to seal his transfer, though.
Apparently, the youngster can leave the AMEX Stadium for limited compensation, but the Blues are trying to reach some kind of agreement.
Chelsea to sign Zak Sturge
Chelsea’s focus on strengthening their youth system and academy teams looks like it’ll continue moving forward.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are meant to be closing in on the transfer of Struge, who’s a Brighton left-back that’s played in their Under-23s and Under-18s side. He’s even represented England at the Under-18 age level, too.
Of course, this isn’t the kind of juicy transfer news involving high profile players to really excite supporters. However, it’s vital an importance on the academy continues under the new ownership.
Chelsea’s Under-23s side only narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League 2 division last season, so there’s work to do at the various age groups.
Everybody hopes that there can be more success stories in years to come from the academy at Cobham.
