Chelsea have reportedly been joined by Premier League rivals Manchester United in the hunt to try sign defender David Alaba from German Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich.

According to the Daily Star, Man United are now in the race to try sign the 28-year-old star and are willing to offer him a £12million-a-year deal to tempt him to Old Trafford.

It is claimed that Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are also interested in trying to land the left-footer.

The report explains that Alaba is out of contract next summer and is free to speak to clubs from January, with Bayern accepting that he will end up leaving after he failed to agree a new contract with them.

Alaba, who has 73 senior international caps for Austria, could now be set to leave Bayern after a decade with them.

He’s been one of Europe’s finest left-backs during recent years, but transformed his game last season to transition into a centre-back and has been a rock in the Bayern defence.

He played in the 1-0 victory last season against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final to win the competition for the second time in his career, plus he can show off nine Bundesliga title medals.

It seems rare that a player of Alaba’s quality will become available in the transfer market, which is why Chelsea should consider pushing hard with their interest in the Bayern powerhouse.
