Chelsea are reportedly interested in a move for Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are the “frontrunners” for the 22-year-old and lead the pursuit for him.

It is understood that Frank Lampard’s team could try move for him in January, but only if they are able to sign players in the next transfer window.

The report explains that Chelsea are awaiting an appeal date from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, as they look for their two-window transfer ban to be overturned or reduced.

Chilwell is an exciting talent at Premier League rivals Leicester City and he’s established himself as the first-choice left-back at the King Power Stadium during the last couple of years.

He is a speed machine that is recognised for his powerful overlapping runs forward and he’s an athletic player that has all the traits of a modern day full-back.

The report is unclear on how much he would cost Chelsea, but he’s highly-rated by Leicester after coming through their academy and the inflated transfer market surely means it would be a sizeable amount.

Chilwell already has eight senior caps for England and is with Gareth Southgate’s squad during the current international break, where he will be looking to feature in qualifying matches against Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

He’s a player that still has plenty to improve on in his game in terms of end product and also defensive positioning, but is such an attractive young talent with limitless potential at his age.

Chelsea fans should be excited about potentially bringing in the Leicester flyer and he would be ideal competition for Emerson Palmieri at Stamford Bridge in the long-term.

Marcos Alonso is enjoying a renaissance at full-back in recent games for the Blues, but the left-back position is one that could do with strengthening when the club are available to sign players again and Chilwell would join several England teammates if he arrived in West London.
