Report: Chelsea make £40m bid for one-club man who is a massive fan of Tuchel
Chelsea have reportedly made an offer to PSG in an attempt to sign centre-back Presnel Kimpembe.
According to the Mail Online, the Blues have bid £40m for the 26-year-old, who has played for the French champions his entire career.
Todd Boehly has been busy working on defensive negotiations since finalising a deal for Raheem Sterling early last week.
He moved quickly in the pursuit of Kalidou Koulibaly, in order to avoid rival clubs getting a chance to show their hand in the negotiations stage.
This is likely to be as a result of the Matthijs de Ligt situation, with Bayern Munich now close to agreeing a deal for the Dutchman despite Blues interest.
Chelsea bid for Kimpembe
It could also explain why the Premier League outfit have made such an attractive offer for Kimpembe, with the Mail Online suggesting it is only £2m short of PSG’s valuation.
A move would not leave Thomas Tuchel completely in the dark about the player he’s signing, following the pair’s time together in the French capital.
The centre-back has been seen as an admirer of the German, with his goodbye message particularly emotional following the manager’s sacking in 2020.
It is likely the France international is being scouted as the club’s next left-centre-back, following the departure of highly-rated Antonio Rudiger.
Tuchel’s work with the German in making him a dominant force last season will surely be at the forefront of Kimpembe’s mind, as he weighs up his first move away from Paris.
The Blues will be keen to add a left-footed option to the back three, although signing the 26-year-old would not be them settling for less in terms of quality to get it. His ability on the ball is up there with the best in the position, which should see him fit in seamlessly as a Premier League defender.
