Report: Chelsea make contact over signing very 'special' £30m striker, he's been compared to Kylian Mbappe
Chelsea are reportedly keeping close tabs on teenage talent, Hugo Ekitike.
This is according to Foot Mercato, who claim the Blues have contacted Reims about the possibility of landing their wonder kid in the summer.
Who is Ektike?
Ekitike has been attracting attention from across Europe thanks to his performances in Ligue 1 this season.
The 19-year-old is already on eight goals for the term, level with Chelsea’s club-record signing Romelu Lukaku.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Considering the attacker’s only other season in senior football was with Danish side Vejle BK in 2020/21, his scoring haul cannot be sneered at.
He is just two goals behind the talisman of French football, Kylian Mbappe, a player who the Reims striker has been likened to before.
Newcastle taking notes
Newcastle United have clearly taken kindly to the young centre-forward’s efforts in the final third, as Sky Sports suggest he could be heading to Tyneside this month.
Newcastle apparently made an informal offer for the exciting prospect, but this proposal fell short of Reims’ £30m (Sky) valuation of their prized possession.
In a pretty mediocre campaign for Les rouges et Blancs, Ekitike has produced moments far from the mundane.
“There is something very special about him. He’s young, and he has the quality to become a very good player,” said his coach Oscar Garcia.
Chelsea enter the equation
Whilst Newcastle’s approaches might be battered away, denying Chelsea would be an altogether different task.
£30m is pennies to the Champions League holders, the same figure they paid for N’Golo Kante.
But do the Blues really need another offensive figure in their squad?
Based on the current situation, the answer is probably yes.
Thomas Tuchel’s attacking assets have struggled to score on a regular basis throughout his tenure.
Perhaps Ekitike could show his elder colleagues how it’s done.
