Report: Chelsea make contact with £51m rated superstar who Lampard called 'top class'

Chelsea have reportedly approached the representatives of Robert Lewandowski over a possible transfer this summer.

According to Sky Germany, contact has been made been the Blues and Bayern Munich about their main man.

Speculation still swirls where the sensational striker will end up next season.

Lewandowski tried to put those rumours to bed in an interview with Tuttosport, saying: “I have a contract at Bayern and I am very good at this club.”

However, this hasn’t halted the talks of a move away from the German giants.

Robert reigns as goal scoring king

Chelsea are in the search for a new centre-forward and there a few finer specimens in football than the Polish international.

He is currently on 47 goals across all competitions this term and recently equalled Gerd Muller’s record of scoring 40 times in a single Bundesliga campaign.

Many of Thomas Tuchel’s squad have first hand experience of facing Lewandowski.

The 32-year-old netted three times when Bayern played Chelsea in last year’s Champions League knockout stages.

Ahead of the first leg, Frank Lampard gave a glowing review of Lewandowski, admitting: “His goalscoring record and everything about him from a distance is top class”.

Bargain buy

If the Blues were to bag the awesome attacker, they would need to fork out €60m (£51.6m), claim ESPN.

That seems something of a steal, particularly compared to the high-rise prices of Harry Kane or Erling Haaland.

But a written cheque might not be enough to lure Lewandowski to England.

Sky Germany state that Spain has always been a seen as a suitable next destination after he’s finished in Bavaria.

Plenty of changes are expected to be made before August swings back around and Bayern’s talisman could be part of the merry-go-round.
