Chelsea have been in talks about signing Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah, according to reports.

Yunus Musah, who impressed for the United States at last year’s World Cup, is an exciting young talent.

The 20-year-old star was previously in the Arsenal academy before his move to Spain and could soon be offered a route back to England.

90min claims that Valencia are braced for interest this summer in Musah, who is ready to leave the Spanish La Liga club.

It is understood that Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been in contact with the central midfielder’s representatives about a possible move following long-term interest.

The report adds there’s rival interest from clubs such as Newcastle United, Brighton, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg.

Apparently, Musah’s got a release clause in his Valencia deal worth around €100million (£86million). However, the Spaniards would have to accept any kind of “substantial offer” in him this summer because of financial difficulties.

In our view, the centre of the park is one area of the pitch that can wait for now.

Once Chelsea have sorted the striker and goalkeeper position, maybe they should look towards a defensive-minded midfielder.

Musah does tick a lot of boxes. He’s young, athletic and has big potential. The American talent could bring some extra steel in the midfield.

However, Chelsea’s next permanent manager needs to asses his option in the middle of the park, where he’s got top-class stars such as Enzo Fernandez.
