Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Bayern Munich about their central midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
According to ESPN, the Blues and Premier League rivals Manchester United have both enquired about the 27-year-old.
It is understood that interest from England has proved to be the strongest so far this summer in the Spain international, but Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has revealed plans to keep him.
Chelsea already have a wealth of midfield options in their squad, but it seems like manger Maurizio Sarri is open to bolstering even further.
Thiago has been with German heavyweights Bayern for five seasons and won the league title in every single campaign, while also adding two German Cup winners’ medals.
He is a central midfielder who is renowned for his quality in possession and his range of passing; something which saw him feature for Spain in this summer’s World Cup squad.
The ex-Barcelona ace is a deep-lying play-maker who likes to dominate the ball, but he did chip in with seven goals for Bayern across all competitions last season.
Chelsea have already signed pass-master Jorginho to improve their midfield for the new season, while the likes of Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante, Ross Barkley , Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater are alternative options.
