Report: Chelsea may have found new way to sign 'unreal' £24m talent, Tuchel really rates him
Chelsea are reportedly interested in Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest and the door may be open for a possible player-plus-cash transfer.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are deciding to reignite their interest in the 21-year-old during this summer’s transfer window.
It is understood Blues manager Thomas Tuchel really rates the United States international, so would approve of bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
The report mentions there may be some room for Chelsea and Barcelona to swap players during the transfer window.
Apparently, Barca have already tabled offers for Blues defenders Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta, but they are operating under financial restrictions.
The Mail’s report suggests a player-plus-cash offer from Chelsea for Dest if he is willing to leave Spain and switch to the Premier League.
Chelsea interested in Dest
Tuchel’s side may have stumbled upon a new way to try sign Dest after previous interest.
If the Blues want him, the idea of including full-backs Alonso or Azpilicueta as part of a deal makes perfect sense.
Dest, described as “unreal” by US manager Gregg Berhalter in 2021, is a versatile defender with immense potential.
The £24million youngster is an attack-minded full-back that can slot in as either a left-back or right-back relatively comfortably.
It looks like a great idea on paper to try bring hungry young defender to Stamford Bridge for next season, especially when there’s a “brilliant” player in the squad like 37-year-old Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva to be a mentor.
