Chelsea could reportedly make a move to try sign Everton’s Lucas Digne on loan next month.
According to Goal, Chelsea are set to be without left wing-back Ben Chilwell for the rest of the season after the decision was made for him to undergo knee surgery.
It is understood that Thomas Tuchel’s Blues will now try to find a solution in the full-back position, as Marcos Alonso is the only recognised left-back currently available at Stamford Bridge.
The report states that the London club may attempt to sign Everton defender Digne when the January transfer window opens. Apparently, a six-month loan deal would be the likely route of any deal and he’s currently out of favour at Goodison Park after falling out with Everton manager Rafael Benitez.
Digne, 28, has proven himself to be a top player in the Premier League despite his recent fallout.
The £18million Frenchman can play at left-back or left wing-back, so on paper a short-term loan deal until the summer could make sense for all parties involved.

Digne ideal for Chelsea
Of course, Alonso can’t keep starting every game when you consider the amount of competitions Chelsea are in.
The likes of Saul Niguez and Callum Hudson-Odoi are make-shift wing-backs, but the Blues would be very smart to bring in a temporary replacement for Chilwell.
Digne ticks a lot of boxes when you check on his profile.
He could immediately be great competition out wide for Alonso and he’s shown in his Everton career he’s very useful going forward, something that’s crucial in Tuchel’s system.
