Report: Chelsea may recall defender Jake Clarke-Salter from loan

Chelsea are reportedly monitoring their defender Jake Clarke-Salter, who is out on loan at Birmingham City this season.

The 22-year-old dropped down to the Championship in the summer on a season-long loan at St Andrew’s.

According to the Telegraph, the Blues are looking at their loan star closely in December to see his progress.

It is understood that Frank Lampard’s team could look to recall him in the January transfer window and there are several other Championship teams interested in him.

The report explains that if he can establish himself in the Birmingham starting XI this month then it’s likely he will stay where he is for the rest of the campaign.

Clarke-Salter has played just six games across all competitions so far this season since joining Birmingham and it’s hardly great for his development.

But the centre-back has now played in four consecutive league fixtures and even scored in a draw with Millwall in the last match.

He has captained England’s Under-21s side and is considered a major rising talent, which is why it makes sense for Chelsea to ensure that he’s on the right path and a move midway through the season will be good if he’s not playing enough.

Chelsea have shown this campaign through the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Reece James, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham that there is a genuine route to the first-team from the loan system.
