Chelsea are reportedly making progress on their deal to try sign Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

According to The Telegraph, a development in the last few days is that Juventus have decided to soften their demands over the 22-year-old’s position.

It is understood the Italian giants had wanted De Ligt’s £102million release clause paid in full to grant his sale, but they have softened demands to mean a transfer in this window is now viewed as “more realistic”.

The report explains Chelsea’s negotiations for the £200,000-a-week star are progressing. De Ligt is actually keen on making the move to Stamford Bridge this summer, too.

Apparently, the Blues would be happy for either Christian Pulisic or Timo Werner to join Juventus as part of a deal in this transfer window.

Chelsea progress on De Ligt deal

It’s a positive bit of news for Chelsea supporters that are hoping to see De Ligt in their colours next season.

The Dutch youngster is a really impressive centre-back, playing 100+ games for both Juventus and Ajax already in his short career.

It was reported last month that he handed in a transfer request to try force a move away from Turin, but Juventus value their talent very highly.

There’s a desperate need for a couple of centre-backs to join Thomas Tuchel’s squad following the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

It’s unclear on how much Juventus would accept to sell De Ligt, but Chelsea are looking at someone that could be the answer in the heart of their defence for a long time.
