Chelsea now reportedly admire Shakhtar Donetsk’s 21-year-old star Mykhaylo Mudryk.

According to Calciomercato, Chelsea are interested in the Ukraine attacker as a potential transfer target.

The report does claim that Premier League rivals Arsenal are currently in pole position to get him, though.

Mudryk, speaking in an interview with Bombadier on YouTube last month, admitted that he’s already taking English lessons amid Premier League speculation.

“I have given maybe a dozen interviews in English. I’ve been studying English for a long time,” he said.

Chelsea admire Mykhaylo Mudryk

Mudryk has been in sensational form for Shakhtar Donetsk this season, scoring 10 goals and making eight assists in 18 games across all competitions.

The extremely skilful left-winger is a real box of tricks when he’s dribbling with the ball. He’s got rapid pace to torment defenders, too.

His performances during the Champions League group stages this season should really excited potential buyers. He had five direct goal contributions in the six group matches.

Igor Jovicevic, who’s the Shakhtar Donetsk manager, described Mudryk as “unstoppable” back in October (UA Tribuna).

Jovicevic added: “Just when you think you are about to catch him, he becomes explosive and too fast.”

The Athletic explains that Shakhtar’s talisman in attack could cost buyers as much as €100million (£87million) to sign, which does seem fairly overpriced for someone with his experience. However, the cost of truly great potential is huge in today’s current market.

It would be great to see talented winger Mudryk growing and developing in the Premier League, especially in Chelsea colours.

However, the Blues need to be a bit wiser when they throw the cash around given their recent history of costly mistakes.
