Chelsea now reportedly have a ‘slim’ chance of signing Everton attacker Anthony Gordon before the close of the summer transfer window later this week.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are now at risk of missing out on the 21-year-old’s signature.

It is understood that there’s a ‘substantial gulf’ in the valuation of the player by the two negotiating clubs.

It’s previously been reported this month that Thomas Tuchel’s Blues will need to fork out at least £60million to prize Gordon away from Everton this window.

Slim chance of signing Anthony Gordon

Perhaps Chelsea will need to accept defeat in the race to sign Gordon, which is something that may please quite a lot of the Blues fanbase.

Yes, the youngster is a very exciting attacker that’s growing in importance at Goodison Park.

However, the winger’s still a relative novice with five goals in 64 first-team appearances for Everton.

He scored his first goal of the new Premier League season in Everton’s game against Brentford on the weekend, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of attacking numbers he can post this year.

If his game continues to develop, Everton will be vindicated in putting such a colossal valuation on his head.

Gordon, who’s been described as a “super talent” by pundit Danny Murphy, suddenly has a lot more eyes on him as a result of his transfer saga this summer.

The English speedster has enjoyed success at various age groups on the international stage, but is yet to earn a promotion to Gareth Southgate’s senior Three Lions squad.

Can he outperform the current crop of Chelsea attackers this season?
