Chelsea are reportedly close to agreeing a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who will make the final decision on his future.
According to The Times, the Blues are edging closer to reaching an agreement with Barca for the 25-year-old’s transfer fee.
It is explained Manchester United previously agreed a £63million deal earlier this summer to sign De Jong, but the player would prefer to join Chelsea due to their offer of Champions League football.
The report explains Thomas Tuchel’s side will wait the Barcelona star’s decision once the transfer fee is fully agreed.
It’s been claimed De Jong has told teammates that Chelsea would be a good next destination for him if he’s forced to leave the Camp Nou amid financial issues, albeit his preference would be to stay where he is.
Regardless, it sounds like the Blues may be closing in on yet another big signing in this window.

Chelsea close to agreeing De Jong deal
This is a transfer that does appear to be edging ever so slightly closer.
Chelsea are doing everything they can their end to bring De Jong to Stamford Bridge, so all eyes are on Spanish giants Barcelona to see how they solve their current problems.
For Chelsea, they’re close to agreeing a fee for someone with immense talent.

De Jong, who’s an important Holland international, is a very talented central midfielder that should still have his peak years ahead.
The technical midfielder would bring guile, flair and an exquisite range of passing to Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
In fairness, he would be competing alongside some other top-class midfielders in Chelsea’s ranks.
Described as “extraordinary” by Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, De Jong has the potential to light up the Premier League if he ends up in England this season.
