Chelsea are reportedly eyeing Scottish teenager Aaron Hickey, who’s making quite the impression in Serie A this season with Bologna.

According to 90min, Chelsea scouts have already been to watch the 19-year-old in action this campaign.

It is understood Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham, Leicester, Leeds, Brighton, Southampton and Brentford have set sights on the Bologna full-back, too. Finally, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are another to put him on their transfer radar.

The report adds he’s a “unique” talent that’s so comfortable playing with either foot.

Hickey’s enjoying most of his success playing in the left wing-back position, scoring four Serie A goals so far this season.

As a result, the Glasgow-born defender has been called up to Scotland’s senior squad for the first time ahead of next week’s international break.

Austin MacPhee, who’s a Scotland assistant coach that previously worked with the youngster at Hearts, highlighted back in 2020 Hickey’s versatility. He even suggested further down the line it wouldn’t surprise him if he turned out to be a defensive midfielder like legendary Barcelona player Sergio Busquets.

“He’s so young he could play a lot of positions. He could end up being like Busquets,” MacPhee said in January 2020.

“It will be interesting to see where Aaron ends up but he’s a young player I would hang my hat on. He’s tall enough to play at centre-back too.”

Let’s hope Chelsea youth thrives under new ownership

It seems odd to discuss transfer rumours at a time when everyone’s focused on who will buy Chelsea. Incidentally, today is the deadline for all potential investors to submit their offers.

If there is a smooth takeover, it would be great for the club to continue investing in youth.

The Blues have benefited so much in recent times due to the hard work that’s gone into the academy at Cobham for such a long time.
