Chelsea are reportedly “desperate” for the club’s sale to happen very soon due to the impact it’s having on the future of Antonio Rudiger.

According to the Evening Standard, there’s a deadline of 11 April for the four shortlisted candidates bidding to buy the club to submit final offers before the final decision on the next ownership is made. Apparently, the takeover should be completed by the end of the season.

However, it is explained the current sanctions on the Blues that restrict them from sorting new contracts is proving a huge problem.

The report says Chelsea remained optimistic before the sanctions hit that Rudiger, who’s out of contract this summer, would end up staying at Stamford Bridge. Thomas Tuchel’s side are not allowed to extend his deal beyond the end of the season right now, though.

In addition, Barcelona are capitalising on the situation by stepping up their bid to try sign 29-year-old Rudiger on a free transfer ahead of next season. The defender’s agents have reportedly held a meeting this week with Spanish club Barcelona.

Time against Chelsea

In fairness, the Blues may need to be prepared for the possibility that time runs out for them on resolving Rudiger’s future.

If possible, it’s a no-brainer to give the German centre-back what he wants to stay. He’s an absolute colossus in Tuchel’s line-up and defensive set up.

However, clubs are understandably making their moves for him now given his world-class quality.

Blues supporters can only keep their fingers crossed for a very smooth and quick takeover process, which ends up in Rudiger staying.
