Report: Chelsea now in best position to sign £69m rated gem who is open to a move this summer

Chelsea are said to be the club most likely to snap up Seville star Jules Kounde in the summer transfer window.

According to Orgullo De Nervion, Chelsea have the greatest chance of signing the defender over several other Premier League suitors.

Manchester United and Arsenal are both keeping track, but the Gunners’ lack of Champions League football is weighing them down.

United are focusing their attentions on Raphael Varane and fellow Sevilla centre-back Pau Torres.

This leaves Chelsea in a strong position to move for Kounde, who is currently representing France at the European Championships.

Kounde’s class

At just 22, he is already one of the game’s most promising talents.

He played 49 times for Sevilla last year, helping them finish fourth in La Liga.

Between Spain and his previous club Bordeaux, he has amassed over 150 appearances.

His release clause reflects how well the Spaniards value him, with its figure standing at €80m (£68.6m).

Now a full French international as well, it seems the sky is the limit for Kounde.

Premier League calling

A move to England looks increasingly likely; the ball is now in his court where he wants to end up.

In a press conference last month, the centre-half admitted he might have to change teams before next season, but nothing has been decided.

Chelsea of course can offer European action, as well as a genuine challenge for Manchester City’s league crown.

They are also on the lookout for a new central defender with Kounde, and Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule, on their radar.
