Chelsea are reportedly keeping an eye on Chivas de Guadalajara forward Alexis Vega.

According to GiveMeSport, the Blues have ‘checked out’ the 24-year-old, who is gaining attention from across the continent.

Vega might play thousands of miles away from Europe in the Mexican first division, but word has got round about his talents.

He is primarily a winger, yet can be deployed pretty much anywhere across the front line.

His numbers are pretty decent this season, scoring or assisting seven times in total for Chivas in 18 matches.

The attacker has also performed excellently for the Mexico national team recently.

Goals in two separate World Cup qualifying fixtures against Jamaica made Vega a very popular man back home.

Mexico eventually finished second in their Concacaf collection, leading them to a tricky but manageable World Cup first round group.

Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Poland await El Tri.

Could Vega venture to Chelsea?

But before Vega can get excited about facing Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski, he should probably consider his club future.

With just over two-years remaining on his contract, and elite Champions League sides apparently circling his signature, the signs are pointing towards a move away from Chivas.

Especially as the player himself as already voiced his desire to play in Europe.

“The dream to go to Europe remains intact,” admitted Vega in August.

“Obviously, I re-signed with Chivas with the illusion of making and playing in the World Cup, but the idea doesn’t leave my mind. I’m sure, and again if I keep working hard, the opportunities will come.

“And when the moment comes, I will move to European football.”

There will certainly be a home for the him in Europe if he decides to leave his birth country.

Along with Chelsea, GiveMeSport claim Wolverhampton Wanderers, Real Madrid and Liverpool are also interested.

If he joined the Blues, he would only be the second male Mexican player to move to Stamford Bridge after Ulises Dávila in 2011.
