Report: Chelsea now interested in £60m Euro 2020 striker who thinks Pulisic is great
Chelsea are reportedly tracking Real Sociedad’s young superstar, Alexander Isak, who has impressed at the European Championships with Sweden.
According to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, the Blues are watching Isak very intently after his solid showing during his national side’s Euros opener against Spain.
The 21-year-old was a real handful all evening and was unfortunate not to find his name on the scoresheet.
International tournaments typically give the world a glimpse at rising stars like Isak, but his talents have already been heavily recognised across the continent.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Isak partying with Pulisic
He signed for Borussia Dortmund in 2017 as a teenager, where his teammate for a brief period of time was current Chelsea ace, Christian Pulisic.
Isak then moved to Real Sociedad two seasons later, via a stop-off at Willem II on loan along the way.
Following his arrival in Spain, the youthful attacker admitted he would be keeping tabs on Pulisic and Jadon Sancho’s movements despite their separation.
“We all played together for a while and they are good friends,” he told reporters (via Goal).
“Unfortunately, I didn’t play so much at the time, but those two are good players and they’re doing big things.”
Sweden’s sensation in Spain
Pulisic is now a Chelsea performer, whilst Isak is tearing it up in Spain.
In 89 Sociedad appearances, he’s scored 33 times and was named La Liga’s Young Player of the Season in 2020/21.
And his stock will continue to rise if Sweden can progress through the Euros group stages and beyond.
His release clause stands at €70m (£59.9m), with a contract until 2024, so any club thinking about signing him soon may have to cough up some extra pennies.
Chelsea are of course looking for a new striker.
Erling Haaland remains the top priority but failing that, they might have to find other alternatives.
