Report: Chelsea now more interested in signing 'talented' £100m teenager over Tchouameni
Jude Bellingham has reportedly jumped ahead of Aurelien Tchouameni in terms of midfielders Chelsea are targeting.
This is according to Eurosport, who suggest the Blues are more invested in Bellingham than they are Tchouameni.
Both young guns were linked to Chelsea throughout the summer, although no official move was made for either player.
The pair remained at their current strongholds, where they have caught the eye of Europe’s elite.
Bellingham has shone ever since he joined Borussia Dortmund from Birmingham City last August.
He was named the VDV’s Newcomer of the Season, after making 46 appearances across all competitions.
His displays did not go unnoticed back home, as Gareth Southgate called the teenager up to England’s European Championship squad.
“I’ve definitely not (seen) a 17-year-old that is as talented as what he is,” said fellow Three Lion Kalvin Phillips.
Now a year older, Bellingham has moved up the gears again.
In five outings for Dortmund this campaign, he’s managed three assists and scored one goal – with his price-tag set at £100 million (EuroSport).
It is no great surprise that Chelsea have identified the Stourbridge-born bright spark as a potential option.
There appears no end to his abilities just yet, for club or country.
But the Blues’ midfield alternative isn’t too bad either.
Tchouameni still a target?
Tchouameni was tipped to leave Monaco last month, with plenty of the continent’s big boys sniffing around his signature.
The Frenchman forged his fame through mature performances beyond his young years.
He turned out for Monaco 42 times last term and is already on eight in 2021/22.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Tchouameni could well be the heir to N’Golo Kante’s throne.
Which is part of the reason why Chelsea are monitoring the talented duo.
Kante’s repeated injuries have become something of a concern, whilst Jorginho turns 30 in December.
Thomas Tuchel’s midfield will need a revamp before too long, which has already begun in the form of Saul Niguez’s loan move from Atletico Madrid.
Looking further into the future, Bellingham or Tchouameni would be fine additions to the Stamford Bridge roster.
