Chelsea are reportedly in advanced talks for Brighton star Marc Cucurella.

According to Sky Sports, the Blues are now in pole position to make the 24-year-old their third signing of the summer after Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.

It is understood Chelsea are in advanced talks for Cucurella and will match Brighton’s £50million valuation.

The report adds Thomas Tuchel’s side are now in pole position for his signature ahead of rival buyers Manchester City.

Chelsea advanced talks for Cucurella

The latest update in this fast-paced Cucurella saga is that Chelsea will be able to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

He was the outstanding player in Brighton’s ranks last season at left-back, so it’s no surprise to see him linked to Premier League giants this summer.

It’s been claimed Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is considering playing him as a centre-back in a back three if he signs, which is a position he’s played before in the Brighton system. Alternatively, the £50,000-a-week star’s got the pace and attacking instincts to seriously rival Ben Chilwell for the starting left wing-back position.

Described as “amazing” by Brighton captain Lewis Dunk, Cucurella finally looks like he’ll get his big move after plenty of speculation.

If he joins Chelsea for the quoted £50million price, that will put him inside the top 10 (ninth) as one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.

Another big tick

Yes, Cucurella looks like another quality player that will be added to the ranks at Chelsea.

Worried fans want to see a new attacker and a more conventional signed centre-half signed first as a priority, but there’s still a month to go in the transfer window.

Brighton’s player of the year has the potential to be an excellent recruit whose versatility will be a big help.
