Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to try sign Everton star Lucas Digne next month.
According to The Sunday Mirror (Page 68, 19 December), Chelsea are one of the clubs interested in the 28-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.
It is understood that the Blues, along with Newcastle United and Leicester City, want to swoop for an Everton player that’s been frozen out of the squad lately by their manager Rafael Benitez.
Merseyside club Everton are reportedly poised to sign Ukraine left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko, which could pave the way for Digne’s exit.
Digne, who cost the Toffees £18million three years ago, has proven himself to be one of the most consistent left-backs in the Premier League across the last few years.
However, his days appear to be numbered on Merseyside with clubs circling.

Do Chelsea need him?
If Chelsea want to win silverware across the board this season, one or two shrewd additions in January could massively help.
Digne does look like he could be a great solution for the Blues, too.
The left-footed full-back would immediately provide extra competition for Marcos Alonso at left wing-back, with Ben Chilwell currently sidelined through injury.
He looks a more rounded defender than Alonso given he can contribute massively in both areas of the pitch.
A lot should depend on the severity of Chilwell’s injury, though.

Plenty of admirers
First of all, Gary Lineker described to Digne as “excellent” back in 2019. This was at a time where he was in the mix for best performing full-back across the Premier League.
In addition, current Chelsea player Ross Barkley said earlier this year that the Everton man has got a “wand of a left foot”.
He’s a top quality player that may just need a fresh start elsewhere.
