Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo.
Grimaldo, who’s been with Portuguese side Benfica since 2016, is an attack-minded defender with some strong European pedigree.
The 27-year-old Spaniard is an attack-minded left-back, scoring two goals and making four assists already this season in 20 games across all competitions.
Described as “extraordinary” by Benfica boss Roger Schmidt last month, Grimaldo is someone linked with a switch to the Premier League in the past.
In fact, Marca claimed back in July that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City wanted to sign the Benfica full-back in the summer window.
He ended up staying with Benfica for this season, with Sergio Gomez moving to the Etihad Stadium from Anderlecht as the alternative at left-back.

Chelsea interested in Grimaldo
According to Record, Chelsea are now monitoring the situation of Benfica’s highly-rated star.
The report adds that Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal are eyeing him, too.
With Grimaldo’s contract expiring with Benfica at the end of the season, it’s no surprise that some top teams across Europe are keeping tabs on his situation.

Grimaldo does look a diamond of a player that’s a very complete full-back, but there’s no need for Chelsea to sign another left-back in their current state.
As it stands, they’ve got Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell battling it out for a spot in the starting position.
There’s already £100million-plus worth of talent, Cucurella (£60million) and Chilwell (£50million), vying for one starting role at Stamford Bridge.
