Report: Chelsea open talks over swap deal, willing to trade their £58m player in hope of getting 22-year-old in return

Chelsea have reportedly opened talks with Juventus over a potential swap deal that could include Christian Pulisic and Matthijs de Ligt.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have resumed discussions with Juventus in an attempt to sign their 22-year-old defender De Ligt.

It is understood the Blues could even offer 23-year-old attacker Pulisic plus cash to try secure a transfer.

The report adds De Ligt’s hesitating over agreeing a new contract with his current club, but will need to be persuaded Stamford Bridge is the right next fit for him.

It’s been claimed recently that Chelsea have cooled interest in De Ligt, who could cost as much as £103million to prize away from Turin. However, this latest update suggests a deal is not dead in the water and can be revived with a player-plus-cash transfer.

Swap for Pulisic + De Ligt

This is a deal that could make perfect sense for Chelsea if the right finances can be agreed.

First of all, it’s blatantly obvious that Thomas Tuchel’s squad needs a new top-class centre-back. De Ligt ticks so many boxes in that aspect to help fill the void left by Antonio Rudiger next season.

Pulisic could turn out to be the perfect makeweight to try drive down De Ligt’s price.

The £58million American forward has produced some spectacular moments in a Chelsea shirt, but 25 goals in 114 appearances for the club highlights the inconsistency. The fact his side are potentially close to bringing in two new attackers is a reason to doubt his future, too.

Tuchel’s side have reportedly agreed a fee with Leeds United to sign exciting winger Raphinha. Also, they are reportedly making a bid for Manchester City’s wide star Raheem Sterling.
