Chelsea reportedly have Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic on their transfer radar for next summer.

According to Sport, the Blues are already making preparations for next summer and they shortlisted the 30-year-old as a potential target.

It is understood that the Croatia international would prefer to stay at the Camp Nou, but the competition for places is set to be increased with the arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax.

Rakitic is a household name that is a crucial player for European giants Barcelona and also helped Croatia to the World Cup final last summer.

He is a central midfielder that can be a magician at times with his control of the ball and is excellent with both feet.

The all-action midfielder can dictate games with his range of passing, clever movement and also has an eye for goal.

Rakitic really is the complete package and it’s hard to see him being dislodged at Barcelona anytime soon contrary to speculation.

He’s already been directly involved in nine goals in 30 games this season for Barcelona and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Chelsea can’t be blamed for lining up a potential swoop for him and if he does become available further down the line the club would be bringing in a world-class player.

But on the flip side the Blues already have some brilliant options in the centre of the park and it would be nice to see a trio of N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jorginho to get a regular run of games together as a combination.
