It definitely sounds like a loan bid may be incoming soon.

Everton step up Gilmour interest

Gilmour, who had an underwhelming loan last season at Norwich City, is being targeted again this summer for another loan transfer.

The central midfielder has shown in the past during 22 first-team games for Chelsea his potential. However, he’s struggling to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans and was dropped from the current tour party in pre-season.

It’s obvious he needs something to happen to shift a change in momentum.

The Scotland international is still only a youngster that many are excited to watch develop. For instance, Ally McCoist explained only a few months ago he thinks he’s going to develop into a “top player”.

Great move for all parties

In fairness, this is a loan deal that looks like a no-brainer for everyone involved.

First of all, Everton would be getting a player in Gilmour that can improve their squad if he plays anywhere near his best.

The deep-lying midfield playmaker has shown numerous times he can effect games on the highest level, so it’s just about finding a confidence and belief to repeat that over and over again.

Meanwhile, Gilmour reuniting with a familiar face in Lampard to get back on track should be a bonus.

Finally, Chelsea won’t be giving up on the midfielder if he goes on loan for another year and can hope he’s more ready to impress Tuchel next summer.
