Chelsea player Kurt Zouma is reportedly close to signing for London and Premier League rivals West Ham, with a medical now imminent.

According to the Evening Standard, the defender will undergo a medical on Thursday in Paris ahead of his transfer.

The report explains that the deal will be worth around £25million and he’s “close” to completing a switch to join the Irons.

It is understood the 26-year-old turned down an offer from West Ham in July, but he may be playing at the London Stadium in this new season.

Zouma, who was signed by ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in 2014, has been a long servant at Stamford Bridge. He’s played 151 senior matches for the Blues. However, he has struggled to really nail down a place in the XI under current manager Thomas Tuchel.

Kurt Zouma deal can work for all parties

For Zouma, he’s too good a player to occupy a fringe role in a squad. Unfortunately, the competition for a place right now in the Blues back-three is extremely fierce.

He’s a centre-half that is dominant in the air and shown he can be a top quality operator in the Premier League.

West Ham will feel they are getting themselves a £25million bargain with Zouma, who’s now in the final two years of his contract at the Bridge.

It won’t be a surprise to see him do well across London. Also, he will be joining a team that can offer Europa League football this campaign and who sit top of the table after the opening two rounds of Premier League fixtures.

Meanwhile, Zouma leaving would open up a spot for youngster Trevoh Chalobah to play more often.
