Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku is reportedly willing to take a financial hit to force a move away from Stamford Bridge.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lukaku is willing to take a pay cut to complete a move back to ex-club Inter Milan.
It is understood the 28-year-old has been in contact with some directors of the Italian side, who only sold him to Chelsea last summer. He’s not currently in their transfer plans, though.
The report adds the centre-forward’s relationship with Blues manager Thomas Tuchel has never been so low.
For Lukaku, he’s firmly under the microscope this season after failing to live up to expectation since his return to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
He’s scored 10 goals in all competitions so far this season, including five in the Premier League, but getting the best out of the Blues attack remains a real headache for Tuchel.
Interestingly, Jamie Carragher predicted this week that the centre-forward will seal a return to the San Siro in the summer to re-join Inter. However, today’s report suggests that move doesn’t seem feasible, even if the player himself is dreaming of the transfer.

Chelsea stuck in another CF nightmare
Yet again, there is real drama around the Blues surrounding the centre-forward role.
Didier Drogba and Diego Costa are the only real exceptions to the long list of Chelsea strikers from the past two decades to receive heavy criticism and scrutiny.
There’s time for Lukau in this season to turn his fortune around, but the fact he didn’t play a minute of a Champions League knockout tie on Tuesday against Lille isn’t a good sign.
Kai Havertz showed what he can do when given the chance to spearhead the attack ahead of Lukaku.
