Chelsea have reportedly re-opened talks with French club Lyon about their centre-forward Moussa Dembele and still have some hope of trying to secure a deal for him during the January transfer window.

According to the Sun, the Blues are back in discussions with the Ligue 1 side about the 23-year-old and manager Frank Lampard is desperate to add another striker to his squad this month.

It is understood that Lyon have previously claimed there is no intention from them to get rid of Dembele in January.

The report details that Chelsea may have to pay up to £45million to secure a deal for the striker late in the January window, why current star Olivier Giroud could be thrown in to try sweeten a deal.

Sky Sports previously reported at the beginning of January that Chelsea saw a £34million turned down for Dembele.

It should be some relief for supporters that Lampard is reportedly desperately pushing to sign an attacker and it could be the difference in getting them over the line for a top four finish.

They have a six-point cushion inside the Champions League spots right now, but form is inconsistent and they need someone else rather than just Tammy Abraham to help finish off plenty of goalscoring chances.

Dembele is an intriguing target that has once again crept up on the rumour mill and he would be a massive risk at any price around £45million.

But on the flip side he’s got 15 goals and five assists in 29 appearances across all competitions this season, as well as possessing the physical qualities that could see him thrive at Stamford Bridge.
