Chelsea player Callum Hudson-Odoi is reportedly set to complete a move to German club Bayer Leverkusen on loan.

According to the Evening Standard, the Bundesliga side are primed to win the race to sign the 21-year-old Blues attacker.

It is understood the deal still needs to be fully finalised, but every party involved is confident it will happen.

The report adds that Chelsea ruled out selling Hudson-Odoi during this window, but have agreed to let their academy graduate exit on loan to get more minutes.

Leverkusen appear to have beaten off competition from Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United and Southampton to get him.

Hudson-Odoi to Bayer Leverkusen

Hudson-Odoi’s personally chosen Leverkusen over a move to a Premier League rival, so it’ll be interesting to see how he develops in a division that’s been a good home for young English players in recent years.

Despite being so young still, he’s actually made 126 first-team appearances for Chelsea. His game is yet to kick on to the dizzy heights most expected from the talented player, though.

The quick winger has struggled to cement a regular spot in Thomas Tuchel’s starting line-up. In fact, he’s even been played out of position as a wing-back.

Tuchel did describe Hudson-Odoi as “outstanding” last season, and he did go through a mini purple patch of form.

Repeat Sancho trick

Hudson-Odoi and Jadon Sancho have risen up the English youth ranks together over the years, but it’s the latter whose club career has really taken off.

Exciting attacker Hudson-Odoi has enjoyed some great moments for boyhood club Chelsea, but there’s been no consistency or major breakout season.

In contrast, 22-year-old winger Sancho moved from Dortmund to Manchester United for £73million last summer.

He scored 50 goals and made 64 assists in 137 first-team games for Dortmund, which helped elevate him on to the wold stage.

Let’s hope the German division can have a similar impact during Hudson-Odoi’s loan.
