Chelsea scouts have reportedly been impressed by Anderlecht youngster Sergio Gomez.
According to TEAMtalk, the Blues are interested in the 21-year-old talent after the club’s scouts came across him in their search for a new left-sided player.
The report explains Thomas Tuchel’s men are unlikely to make an offer for him this month, but they are watching him closely. Also, Manchester United are named as possible suitors for the Spanish full-back.
Gomez, who plays as a left-back or left wing-back, has made a brilliant start to his Anderlecht career since joining them in the summer from Borussia Dortmund.
He’s remarkably got 13 assists in 28 appearances this campaign, including a hat-trick of assists during his last appearance in a Belgian league match against Beerschot.
His profile definitely matches what Chelsea look for in their wing-backs, so he’s an intriguing target to monitor given his attacking contributions.
Chelsea must sign LWB
With Ben Chilwell out for the rest of the season, it’s vital Chelsea sign a new left wing-back before the January window shuts.
Marcos Alonso is the main senior option right now in that wing-back spot, albeit Kenedy has recently returned to Stamford Bridge from his loan.
The likes of Malang Sarr and academy product Lewis Hall are potential defensive options if Tuchel wants to mix things around, but he’ll surely want to have a settled side and formation as the business end of the season comes around.
It’s going to be intriguing to see what Chelsea’s hierarchy do with their transfer business.
