Report: Chelsea set sights on 22-year-old defender with second most tackles in the PL this season

Chelsea are reportedly one of the English clubs setting their sights on Crystal Palace’s rising talent Tyrick Mitchell.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are keeping an eye on the 22-year-old defender at their London rivals.

It is understood Manchester City, Tottenham and Newcastle United have put the left-back on their radar, too.

Mitchell, who’s just received his first ever senior England call-up during the current international break, is in great individual form at Selhurst Park.

The quick full-back has become an ever-present in Patrick Vieira Palace XI, starting in every single Premier League match this season.

In addition, the youngster’s made the second most tackles (90) across the entire Premier League this campaign, with Brentford’s Christian Norgaard the only player with more (91).

Chelsea, who will be watching Palace closely due to the form of Blues loanee Conor Gallagher, now have another reason to keep an eye on Vieira’s side.

Big England test

For certain, Mitchell’s still a bit of an unknown talent at the top level.

He’s looked an impressive one-on-one defender in the league and a very consistent performer, but a step up to the international stage is a huge moment for any player.

The full-back will hope to make a debut during the upcoming two friendlies, as well as make a big impression on England boss Gareth Southgate.

Chelsea, along with other suitors, will be intrigued to see how Mitchell slots in alongside the best players in the country.

There is enough quality right now in the Blues squad at left-back with Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso, but the latter’s always someone that’s divided opinion in the fanbase.
