Report: Chelsea set sights on 'amazing' £30m PL player, but it will be difficult to get him
Chelsea are reportedly planning a raid on Premier League rivals Leicester City for their star defender Wesley Fofana.
According to the Evening Standard, the 21-year-old Frenchman is on Chelsea’s transfer radar ahead of the summer window.
The report does claim it will be difficult for the Blues to sign him, though.
Fofana, who cost Leicester £30million, is under contract at the King Power Stadium until 2027 after recently signing a new deal.
Chelsea do still have the ball-playing centre-half in their sights as they plan for life without Antonio Rudiger, whose exit this summer has now been confirmed.
Brilliant Chelsea target
For certain, Fofana looks like he could be a super signing for Chelsea going into next season. Of course, the London club need a takeover to be wrapped up first and for the new ownership to grant transfer funds.
Fofana, described as “amazing” last month by Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers, looks a star in the making.
He’s been excellent recently since returning from a long-term injury and his potential looks sky-high.
The French youngster fits the bill as being someone very comfortable in possession, as well having great pace and aggression to defend against Premier League attackers.
There’s parts of his game he will iron out as he gets older and gains more experience, but it’ll be no surprise to see him reach an elite level in the coming years.
Chelsea really should push hard for another raid on Leicester.
This is a deal that would go down the same path as Ben Chilwell and N’Golo Kante rather than Danny Drinkwater.
