Reports suggest Chelsea are maintaining interest in Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian giants need to sell players this summer, and their expected sale of Milan Skriniar has seemingly fallen through.

Dumfries impressed in Serie A last season as a wide attacking force, contributing five goals and five assists in just 21 games.

He also particularly caught the eye during the delayed Euro 2020 campaign, despite Netherlands’ underwhelming campaign as a whole.

It’s not the first time the 26-year-old has been linked with a move to England, with Everton’s interest in the Dutchman blocked by then manager Rafa Benitez.

The Blues could be prepared to go one step further though, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that they have stayed in the race to sign him this summer.

It is expected to be a busy final five weeks of the transfer window for the Blues, with Thomas Tuchel vocal over his need to sign more top-quality players this summer.

Chelsea keep tabs on Dumfries

The club have secured Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly already, however they could be about to miss out on a long-awaited deal for Jules Kounde, with Barcelona reportedly agreeing personal terms with the Frenchman.

While it may look on paper that Dumfries joining would be providing competition in one of the only areas they don’t need it, his attacking ability could see him fulfil the right-wing-back role effectively,

This could see Reece James occupy a centre-back role, an area where Chelsea are particularly weak in at the moment. With Kounde negotiations going nowhere, the club will have to get back in the market before the season starts.

Josko Gvardiol had been touted as a name the club have in mind if a deal for the Sevilla defender failed to come to fruition. Despite it being claimed it would need a big fee to let him leave RB Leipzig, the Blues should look to act quick with the Premier League season fast approaching.
