Reports are suggesting that Chelsea are still interested in signing Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa.

According to Football London, the Blues remain keen on the 24-year-old despite the return of Emerson Palmieri from his loan spell at Lyon.

The Croatia international has established himself as Stuttgart’s number one choice left back, making 28 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit during the last campaign.

He has also contributed nine assists in all competitions, providing an asset from wide that Chelsea would surely love to utilise.

His ability to provide pinpoint crosses has earned him the nickname of the ‘left-footed David Beckham’, on the Bundesliga’s official website.

Stuttgart chief Sven Mislintat has said: “Borna’s said himself that David Beckham is his role model, and I think he has the same qualities.”

Now Football London have claimed that the Blues remain interested in acquiring Sosa, despite Emerson returning from France.

There had been speculation that the Italian was part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for next season, with the club looking to need a reliable deputy for Ben Chilwell.

Chilwell missed the majority of last season with a serious injury, which resulted in Marcos Alonso making a lot of appearances in the role.

However, rumours suggest the Spain international is primed for a move to Barcelona, leaving Chelsea requiring cover on the left-hand-side.

Any addition to the squad, whether that be new signing or returning loan player, will have to expect to be understudy to Chilwell, who has shined when fit since his £50m move.

If Emerson is happy to remain at Stamford Bridge with sporadic first team opportunities, it doesn’t feel like Chelsea need to make an addition in the position.

Assuming another freak serious injury is avoided, Chilwell has nailed down the starting role in the current system, so having both Emerson and Sosa at the club feels like overkill.

If injuries wreak havoc on the squad again, the Blues should focus on investing in January this season, a move they didn’t make last season. While signings are traditionally more expensive at this time of the season, the move could have been one of the more important ones of last season had it been made, given the impact on the team the missing Chilwell had.
