Chelsea have reportedly been dealt a blow in the pursuit of their latest left-back target, Robin Gosens. The Blues reportedly sent representatives to watch the German full-back in Atalanta’s recent 5-0 win over Parma.
Gosens impressed those involved at Chelsea but it now seems like a deal is off the table. Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that the 25-year-old has reached an agreement with the club for a new contract. He suggested the only club he would leave Atalanta for would be his boyhood club Schalke 04.

The German left-back has scored five goals and provided three assists in just 15 league appearances so far this season and is a key part of Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta side that is currently sat fifth in Serie A.
Lampard will have to re-think his left-back options if a move is now off the cards. The Chelsea boss is keen to bring in a new left-back this month. He is not satisfied with what Emerson or Marcus Alonso offers in a defensive or attacking capacity.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of David Alaba and Ben Chilwell as well as Gosens. Deals for each of these players seem unlikely for one reason or another and Chelsea will have to be careful not to panic buy.
The search for a new left-back goes on for Chelsea. The idea of promoting 17-year-old Ian Maatsen to the first team is surely something worth considering for Frank Lampard.
