Chelsea will reportedly make a final move on deadline day to try convince Italian club Napoli into offloading their forward Dries Mertens.
According to the Telegraph, Frank Lampard’s will make a last-ditch bid to try bring the 32-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
It is understood that the Blues will make an attempt for the Belgium international, despite seeing a first approach erected and the fact that Napoli have informed Chelsea they don’t want to sell him this month.
Chelsea will be pulling a rabbit out of the hat if they manage to strike a deal for him, but reports suggest they will make one final offer.
Mertens would add the firepower to the Chelsea attack that is missing right now and would be a massive plus on deadline day.
He’s scored nine goals across all competitions this season for Napoli, including four during the Champions League group stages to fire them into the knockout rounds.
The versatile attacker can play as a central striker or in a deeper number 10 position, but has proven himself for a number of years at the top level.
Mertens has 118 goals and 71 assists in 304 Napoli appearances during his career, which is why it’s obvious Chelsea fans are desperate to see him join.
