Senior figures at Chelsea are confident that they can convince Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Halaand to move to Stamford Bridge, according to ESPN.

The Blues, according to the report, are one of the few clubs — and the only club in London — with a realistic chance of signing the 20-year-old this summer.

Aside from their “attractive financial package”, Chelsea are reportedly confident they could tempt Haaland with their prospect of becoming “the centre-piece of a young, expensively assembled team”.

Although there remains an unknown variable, which is their relationship with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola.

The report said Chelsea have not done much business with Raiola and were reluctant to pay him a significant agent fee when they tried to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton back in 2017.

Chelsea are not the only Premier League club that is interested and has the spending power to sign Haaland, however.

ESPN also mentioned Manchester United and Manchester City among the clubs in the race for the Norway international.

Thomas Tuchel’s recent team selection suggests that he does not consider Tammy Abraham as his first-choice No.9.

Timo Werner, on the other hand, has spent more time in a left inside forward role despite playing well as a centre-forward at Anfield on Thursday.

While Olivier Giroud is already 34 and has already entered the final three months of his Chelsea contract.

If Chelsea are prioritising a new striker and a new defender this summer, as reported by Telegraph’s Matt Law, then Haaland is going to be an ideal signing.

But first, they have to focus on securing a top-four finish.

Without Champions League football next season, it is safe to say that they would have a hard time convincing Haaland, or any other alternative top strikers, about their project.
