Chelsea have reportedly turned down an offer for N’Golo Kante from Inter Milan, but could still sell a defensive midfielder this summer.
According to reports from the Telegraph and the Guardian, the Blues have rejected Inter’s attempt to bring the France international to Serie A for a potential reunion with former manager Antonio Conte.
Inter reportedly wanted to include Marcelo Brozovic in their rejected offer, but Chelsea have also told them that they are also not interested in a swap deal involving former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen.
A possibility that Chelsea could be tempted into selling Kante for the right price remains open, the report added.
According to the reports, Frank Lampard still has West Ham United’s Declan Rice on his wishlist, and selling one of his midfielders might be needed in order to make room and raise funds for any potential Rice deal.
Lampard would favour selling Jorginho, rather than Kante, the reports claimed, but after it is safe to say that Kante would be much easier to sell than the Italy international, particularly after Maurizio Sarri’s sacking at Juventus.
Inter Milan are reportedly weighing up whether to continue their pursuit of Kante and they might need to raise funds through player sales should he plan to table a straight cash offer.
With the Premier League’s summer transfer window remains open until October 5, it would be difficult to rule out any late deals.
