Chelsea could reportedly rip up Alvaro Morata’s loan deal at Atletico Madrid this summer unless they fork out £50million for him.
The Spaniard left Stamford Bridge in January on an 18-month loan deal to link up with Atletico.
According to the Telegraph, the Blues have informed the Spanish club that they would be prepared to cancel his loan if they don’t make a permanent swoop this summer.
The report details that Chelsea have the option to recall the centre-forward and will do if a £50million move isn’t made.
Morata certainly didn’t enjoy the best of times in England and there weren’t many tears shed when he was shipped on loan.
The striker scored 24 goals in 72 appearances for the Blues, but was sloppy in front of goal and a step down from previous club strikers like Didier Drogba or Diego Costa.
Chelsea should be delighted if they can recoup £50million for Morata given his inconsistent form, but whether Atletico will make that sort of move this summer remains to be seen.
It’s hard to picture him going back into the fold for the Blues, but the forward department could look a little thin at Stamford Bridge next season.
Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud look the two most likely striker options for Chelsea going into the new campaign, but could Morata end up being a surprise choice?
