Chelsea were giving real consideration to re-signing Tammy Abraham from Roma before his recent injury blow.

That is according to The Athletic.

It’s no secret that the Blues need a centre-forward to add to their squad for next season, but we won’t see Tammy Abraham returning to Stamford Bridge any time soon.

The Athletic has explained that Chelsea were considering a move this summer to re-sign Abraham.

However, the report says that the 25-year-old striker is no longer in the equation after suffering a serious knee injury in Roma’s last game of the 2022/23 season.

Roma signed Abraham a couple of years ago in a deal that has worked out well for the Serie A club, with the Englishman scoring goals and impressing in Italy.

Sky Sports claim he moved to Rome in a £34million transfer, which also included a £68million buy-back option for Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will not be trying to sign the injured attacker.

Abraham’s a decent forward that would probably score more goals leading the line than any of our current strikers, but he certainly wouldn’t be our first choice anyway.

It’s going to be challenging without the pull of European football next season, but Chelsea are crying out for a high-profile striker that is guaranteed 20-plus goals.
