Chelsea have identified Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell as a primary target this summer but the Foxes reportedly want a fee of around £80million for the defender.
The Blues have been linked with a number of left-backs including Porto’s Alex Telles and Getafe’s Marc Cucurella.
However, Chilwell is top of the list and Chelsea are confident of bringing the 23-year-old to Stamford Bridge, according to Goal.
The report also claimed Leicester will demand a similar fee to what Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire last summer, which is around £80m, as Chilwell still has four years remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium.
This means Chelsea will have to break the club’s previous transfer record (Kepa Arrizabalaga for £71.5m) to land the English defender.
On the other hand Telles, who has a £36m release clause, would be a far cheaper alternative.
The report said it will cost Chelsea £23m for Cucurella, as clauses in his loan agreement with Barcelona will open an opportunity for a summer move.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has had two left-backs, Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri, at his disposal but both have failed to claim a regular spot in the starting line-up.
Emerson was the first choice in the first half of the season but he has fallen behind in the pecking order since December.
Alonso has been given the nod to start in recent games. However, if Chelsea land a left-back this summer, one of them will likely leave Stamford Bridge.
