Chelsea are being linked with a move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, who is a highly-rated talent across European football.
According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are willing to join the hunt to sign him.
It is explained that the French centre-back has a £40million release clause in his contract, which becomes effective in the summer.
The report states that Chelsea have expressed an interest in the 22-year-old, but an exit is more likely in the summer as Leipzig plan to keep hold of him this month.
If Frank Lampard’s side do push for his signature in the future, the report has mentioned Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich as potential suitors.
The Frenchman has some of Europe’s elite clubs keeping tabs on him, which is largely down to the fact he’s an an athletic centre-half with pace, strength and massive potential.
Premier Legue legend Rio Ferdinand previously called him “formidable” after a performance he put in last year against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League (Daily Mail).

Upamecano has looked world-class in some games in a Leipzig shirt, particularly when he’s been on a Champions League stage.
But the Frenchman is by far the finished product yet, as he’s still capable of the odd individual error and he still has so much experience to gain as he develops further.
On paper he looks a natural fit for English football with his attributes, so it’ll be no surprise if he does eventually end in the Premier League.
Chelsea should monitor how he gets on during the rest of the season and at £40million he could be tempting in the summer, especially as veteran Thiago Silva is in the latter stages of his career.
