Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger is reportedly on Barcelona’s January shortlist as they plan to bring in a low-cost, established centre-back.
The 27-year-old has struggled to get game time at Chelsea this season, having lost his spot to new signing Thiago Silva.
Rudiger has made just two appearances so far this season but with the 2021 Euro coming up, his Chelsea future remains unclear.
Germany head coach Joachim Low previously said Rudiger will reassess his situation at Chelsea in January after deciding to stay in the summer.
And according to a report from Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona could be a potential destination.
While the report said Barcelona’s top target is still Manchester City’s Eric Garcia, they have also considered a list of low-cost alternatives who have international experiences and can be brought in on a loan deal.
Rudiger is reportedly on the list, along with Liverpool’s Joel Matip and several other centre-backs with Chelsea said to be open to negotiations over the defender.
Interestingly, the report also claims that the Germany international “would be delighted” to join Barcelona considering he would likely face similar competitions for the starting roles from the likes of Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti.
