The Mason Mount transfer saga is having a negative effect on Chelsea’s chances of signing Declan Rice from West Ham, according to reports.

The Guardian says that the prospect of Mason Mount leaving Stamford Bridge is not helping Chelsea’s chances of signing his best friend, Declan Rice.

There’s been a wave of speculation in recent weeks to suggest Mount, 24, could be sold by Chelsea in the summer transfer window. 90min claimed last week that Mount has agreed personal terms to join Manchester United, but parties are still trying to reach an actual transfer fee.

Apparently, the Blues could miss out on West Ham’s captain if Mount goes in the same window.

90min recently claimed that Chelsea are among several high-profile clubs interested in signing £100million-rated Rice this summer. They name Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle United as rival buyers.

However, The Guardian stated yesterday it’s “unlikely” Rice will be added to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad at Chelsea.

The West Ham midfielder, who’s currently preparing for a European final this week, belongs at the highest level. Therefore, it’s no surprise to see big teams rumoured to be in for his signature.

However, Chelsea could lose a real bargaining chip by offloading Mount.

Rice is preparing for tomorrow’s UEFA Europa Conference League final between West Ham and Fiorentina, which is a chance for him to win the first piece of silverware in his career.

He’s an all-action midfielder that would be a massive help in the Chelsea line-up, but there’s not much positive news in the media to suggest he’ll join.

Could we end up seeing a Rice-Mount link up next season at Old Trafford? If rumours are anything to go by, it seems far more likely than a meet up at Chelsea.
