Report: Club have planned to have talks next week about signing £150k-a-week Chelsea player

Barcelona are reportedly set for talks next week for the potential signing of Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona’s sporting director Mateu Alemany will travel next week to hold discussions with Chelsea about the 32-year-old star.

The report explains Alemany will travel after Barcelona’s pre-season tour in the United States is finished.

It’s been claimed this week that the La Liga giants are confident they can complete the transfer of Azpilicueta, who has one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Spain international reportedly wants to make a move to the Camp Nou after a decade as a Chelsea player, but Blues manager Thomas Tuchel has alluded to the fact he may want to keep him another season.

Barcelona talks next week for Azpilicueta

The ruthlessness that Barca have operated with in this transfer window is a slight concern. However, Chelsea do hold the cards in their hand when it comes to Azpilicueta’s immediate future.

If Tuchel’s side can find a suitable replacement, most fans wouldn’t mind ‘Azpi’ getting his move after giving so much to the club.

Unfortunately, the current state of the squad means the Blues really can’t afford to lose the Spaniard at this stage.

Azpilicueta’s quality to play centre-back or right wing-back in the Chelsea system means he’s so handy. Therefore, replacing him may actually need two signings.
